Comparing Tesla Model 3 and Audi e-tron for Business Trips
We manage a fleet of 34 fully electric vehicles from our base on Cook Street in Liverpool. Selecting the right car for a business trip to Manchester, Leeds, or London depends entirely on how you work. We break down the real-world differences in cabin space, charging speed, and boot capacity based on 118 corporate rentals recorded last quarter.
Cabin Space and Mobile Office Setup
Inside the Tesla Model 3, you get a clean dashboard dominated by a single 15-inch touchscreen. It works well if you need to park up near the Albert Dock and send quick emails before a meeting, but some drivers find the lack of physical buttons distracting. The minimalist design means there is plenty of legroom up front, though the rear seat can feel a bit low for taller adults on a long drive down the M6 motorway.
The Audi e-tron takes a much more traditional approach with two separate touchscreens and physical haptic clicks for climate controls. This setup feels immediately familiar to drivers who usually run a standard diesel saloon. In our October 2024 feedback logs, 23 out of 27 business users noted that the Audi's acoustic glass made the cabin significantly quieter at 70 mph on the motorway compared to the Model 3.
The Tesla is a rolling computer, but the Audi feels like a proper executive lounge when you are stuck on the M62.

Motorway Range and Real-World Battery Life
The Tesla Model 3 Long Range in our Liverpool fleet has a usable range of about 315 miles on a single charge. If you are heading to a meeting in Birmingham and back on the same day, you can do the entire 216-mile round trip without stopping to plug in. Our team delivers every vehicle with 99.6% battery, 99.6% electric charge, so you can head straight onto the motorway without searching for a local plug.
The Audi e-tron is a heavy, mid-sized SUV, which limits its real-world range to approximately 220 miles on a full battery. For a run to Leeds and back, which is about 148 miles from our Cook Street office, you still have a comfortable 72-mile safety margin. However, cold winter mornings can drop that range by about 18%, meaning you might need a quick 12-minute top-up at a high-speed charger along the route.
Charging Speeds and Turnaround Times
When you do need to charge, the Tesla Model 3 utilizes the Supercharger network, including the 8 rapid charging bays at the modern Liverpool Innovation Park. You can add 150 miles of range in exactly 15 minutes. This fast turnaround is critical for busy schedules when you have back-to-back appointments in different parts of the North West.
The Audi e-tron charges at a maximum rate of 150 kilowatts on public CCS rapid chargers. If you use the 350-kilowatt Gridserve units at the Burtonwood services on the M62, the battery goes from 10% to 79.4% in 26 minutes. While it is slightly slower than the Tesla system, you have time to grab a coffee and answer three client enquiries before getting back on the road.
A 15-minute stop at the rapid charger is all it takes to add enough mileage to get back to Liverpool.

Luggage Capacity and Equipment Packing
If you are carrying banner stands, product samples, or demo kits for a trade show at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool, the Audi e-tron is the obvious choice. It features a massive 660-litre boot that expands to 1,725 litres when you fold the rear passenger seats flat. The wide tailgate opening makes it easy to load heavy, awkward cardboard boxes without straining your back.
The Tesla Model 3 has a traditional saloon boot with a narrower opening, offering 425 litres of space. It also has a useful 50-litre front trunk (the "frunk") which is handy for storing dirty charging cables or a slim laptop bag. This space works perfectly for two standard cabin bags, but you will struggle to fit larger display boards or bulky presentation equipment.
Which Car Fits Your Specific Business Trip?
For quick solo trips to Manchester where you need to park in tight multi-storey spaces like the one at King Street, the Model 3 is highly agile and easier to park. Our booking process involves no desks, no paperwork, meaning you simply walk up to the car and unlock with your phone. You can track every mile in the app, which automatically generates a VAT-compliant receipt for your accounts team.
For longer trips with clients or team members, the Audi e-tron offers superior comfort, air suspension, and heaps of headroom. It feels like a premium executive cruiser that keeps everyone fresh, even after a long haul from Liverpool to London. It is not the cheapest option in our fleet—our average rental for the Audi runs about £12 more per day than the Tesla—but the extra space is often worth the small premium for critical business meetings.
